A woman’s hilarious reaction to the unexpected birth of her friend’s dog has her completely hysterical.
TikToker Kelly Love (@loveandchaos.co) was dog-sitting her Great Dane when the mom-to-be gave birth much sooner than she thought. The nauseating Kelly Love, unprepared for this mission, trying to support the mama dog won the hearts of users.
When shared on the platform on October 10, the clip received over 120,000 likes and 1.5 million views.
How do I prepare my dog to give birth?
Dr. Louis DelGiudice—national emergency specialty director at AmeriVet Management Partners Inc.—said the store can prepare its dog owners for delivery.
First, she recommends that owners visit their primary care veterinarian for a prenatal evaluation, including an x-ray and ultrasound.
“These diagnostic tools will estimate the number of fetuses to expect and provide an estimate of the size of the fetus,” he said. Newsweek.
“[These tests can also] help determine if there is a possibility of dystocia (difficult birth).
Next, owners should also prepare an area for their pets to give birth, DelGiudice recommends, “clear an area in the house with a litter box.”
Even a “nesting box” cat litter box creates a small safe zone for the dog to give birth and can be purchased online or made at home. The box should be heated to fill the litter box and avoid materials such as straw that can irritate the dog’s eyes. The cubs will spend most of their first month in this box, with little sharp edges guarding the guys.
DelGiudice also advised owners to talk to the mother about nutrition in order to get a healthy calorie-dense fat diet during pregnancy and lactation.
How can you tell if your dog is ready to give birth? DelGiudice said the first stages of puppies can last between six and 36 hours.
“The symptoms, as you can see, are fatigue, restlessness, panting, and no interest in eating,” he said.
What if you end up in a situation like Kelly, where your dog unexpectedly gives birth? DelGiudice urged the owners to “leave it alone.”
“Most of the time, it is best to leave the dog alone, and allow the whipping to proceed, but to be educated on any signs of dystocia or difficulty in childbirth may require intervention,” he said.
“Black, bloody, or green discharge from the vulva before the pup is born could be a sign of dystocia. During the birthing process, strong contractions for 20 to 30 minutes, without the pup being born, is a sign of concern.”
He said that generally, puppies are born every 30 to 60 minutes, but up to two hours can be normal. If your dog is still struggling after three hours, it is a cause for concern to seek emergency help.
“If you see a puppy stuck in a canal and won’t come out, your pet may also be seen,” he said.
“Make sure the cake is delivered with each puppy. If the puppy is not delivered with the cake, it is usually delivered after 5 to 10 minutes.”
After the birth is complete, he allows the mother to clean her babies, and to see that they feed their litter every two to three hours during nursing.
In her video, Kelly Love explained that her friend Great Dane stayed with her after her friend’s house flooded during Hurricane Jan. Mama dog wasn’t expected to give birth until the weekend, but the puppies were scheduled to arrive a few days early – while Kelly was in the middle of a client meeting at her home.
“Oh my goodness,” Kelly Love exclaimed upon discovering that the dog had given birth to her first puppy. “Lick the puppy, yes! Good girl.”
Narrating the footage in the captions, Kelly Love wrote:[This is] Pretty awkward because I’m clueless when it comes to puppy dogs.’
Love explained the situation to his clients and rescheduled the appointment. Her roommate went to her friend, while Love stayed to watch over the dog’s mom, rubbing her back to comfort her.
However, his strong stomach was tested when the dog ate the cake.
“Holy f***** s***,” she said in the averted clip, not trying to vomit. She then cheerfully looked straight into the relief camera.
When the mama dog started cleaning her puppies, Kelly started out miserable.
“This is where the mom was cleaning her baby and had a navel and a bag in her mouth,” she wrote in her story.
“It’s all downhill from here,” he says, as viewers watch themselves in the next shot. She then walked around the room, trying not to throw up again.
“Here I am working as one,” he wrote.
In another clip added a few hours later, Love updated users on the puppy’s progress. Mama and all three babies are doing well, one Harlequin kitten (spotted black and white), one black kitten and one blue.
TikTok users applaud Love’s efforts, even if it ends up vomiting.
“You treated yourself well,” said Christ Butler in the comments. “I don’t think you are up to the joke of nursing and labor, but you killed it!”
“The roller coaster just went through,” joked Gabriel Martinez.
“I’m sorry I laughed harder at the closing time,” wrote @havinfun.
While MandiRie comments: “It was my dog and I was ready and you still did what you did LMAO. You did AMAZING.”
