2019 Infiniti Q50 3.0 T Red Sport 400 – It can be difficult to create a reliable product that fits into a small package, and even more difficult to build a car – like the Infiniti Q50 – to compete with the Audi A4 and BMW 3 Series models. Power comes from a turbocharged four-cylinder twin-turbo V-6 engine or a 360-hp hybrid engine. A 400-hp V-6 engine is also available in the Red Sport 400 and is tuned separately. Each engine can be paired with a rear or all-wheel drive option. The interior design is Infiniti and looks more expensive and sportier than it is, but overall the Q50 isn’t as sweet or fun to drive as its better rivals.
The Q50 lineup no longer includes a hybrid transmission and Infiniti has updated standard features on all models for 2019. Every version now includes Forward Collision Warning and Emergency Braking. The Luxe model adds a standard sunroof, 18-inch wheels and wood interior trim. The Q50 Sport gets new standard equipment such as a 360-degree camera, alloy wheels, Bose stereo system, heated front seats and navigation.
2019 Infiniti Q50 3.0 T Red Sport 400
Infiniti’s 300-hp twin-turbo V-6 is quick and passable, so we prefer the entry-level all-wheel drive of the Q50. The sedan never gets a Sport, so we’ll avoid the extra cost of the Sport model and keep the standard V-6 Luxe trim, which includes dual-zone climate control and an eight-speed manual transmission. seat and adjustable strap. Any Q50 can be upgraded to include all-wheel drive for $2,000, but we’d stick with rear-wheel drive and spend our money on the Essential package, which adds a split rear seat, navigation services, heated seats and heated wheels. The Q50’s standard engine is a 208-hp turbocharged four-cylinder, similar to the base offering on most Infiniti rivals. A 300 hp twin-turbo V-6 follows – and it’s one of the Q50’s best features. Each engine is mated to a seven-speed automatic transmission. The V-6 version we tested was quick, hitting 60 mph in five seconds. The transitions are so simple that it’s hard to tell, even if the driver links them to the priest’s car engine.
Our Q50 was a Sport model with 19-inch wheels. The car was a bit bumpy, and it was rough at times, but perhaps the Q50’s standard 18-inch wheels were better. Steering is easy but not quick and lacks focus. Infiniti’s optional drive-by-wire steering, called Direct Adaptive Steering, is a popular feature, but none of the many models available offer feedback or power enhancements when the hatches are closed. The Q50’s braking distance of 169 meters is not an impressive result in itself. However, Audi and BMW just very easily fared much better.
The Q50 did not receive satisfactory marks for economy. Rear-wheel-drive models generally do 1 or 2 mpg better than their four-wheel-drive counterparts, but in any case, few direct competitors publish better EPA ratings. The all-wheel-drive V-6 Q50 fully lived up to expectations during our real-world testing, matching the EPA’s 27 mpg rating. Much better than what we did on the Kia Stinger and Jaguar XE.
Dislikes: Luxury features are hard to come by, dual-screen infotainment system isn’t intuitive, folding rear seats aren’t standard.

Infiniti seems like a good brand, but the interior never looked very good, even with top models costing over $50,000,000. Inside packages are starting to look outdated. The Q50 has more space in the front seat, but this advantage is lost for rear seat passengers, where they sit in the middle of the road. The standard comes with some desirable features like adjustable power steering and driver’s seat storage, but other items are missing from the options list.
The infinity system is far from our taste, with an outdated design and dual screen mode. The top screen displays navigation information if the vehicle is equipped and does not respond to touch commands. Instead, it is controlled by a small joystick-like device mounted on the center console. However, the lower screen is touchable and is used for all other functions. We found the system more confusing and less useful than the parts offered by Audi and BMW. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, now often listed as standard features, are not available. Quick response time to user input and two standard USB ports help work with a resilient system.
The Q50 is about the same size as its rivals, but the carrying capacity is below average and the interior is short for handy children. It may be a good commuter, but the Q50 is not designed for long family trips. With 13 cubic feet of trunk space, the Q50 falls far short of the 3-door sedan and Stinger upgrade. A folding rear seat is not optional, not standard, and not available on the base 2.0t White.
The Q50 has never been tested by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and has only been partially tested by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). There are many driver aids, but none of them are available at the basic level. Key security features include:

Looking at the design, the new Infiniti Q50 sedan is very similar to the first model launched in 2013. In fact, in all these years it has never undergone a complete renovation. That’s not a bad thing, either: some vehicles have a good sibling that never looks, well, dated. With that said, a few changes and upgrades have been made over the years, such as LED lights, a modern interior, and new engines (including hybrids).

Of course, the most exciting package in the lineup is the Red Sport 400. It’s no surprise that the Red Sport 400 comes with, you guessed it, a supercharged 400 horsepower engine found in the Q50. However, some buyers may be surprised to learn that Infiniti offers a powerful sports car. It’s also a unique engine: all the power comes from a twin-turbo 3.0-liter V6. It can deliver 350 lb-ft of torque at 1,600-5,200 rpm. With a twin-turbo system that can rev up to 220,000,000 rpm, adding an impressive 14.7 pounds of thrust, this engine is definitely worth considering.
All these big numbers translate to a 0-60 time of just 4.5 seconds. This puts this car on par with the entry-level Audi S4, BMW 335i and AMG C43 Mercedes-Benz C-Class. Plus, the Q50 is available in AWD or RWD, a nice bonus if you live in warm climates year-round and want to go back and forth all the time.
The Q50 Red Sport isn’t just a cool name. Infiniti has really put a lot of effort into ensuring that this true sports car can compete with the best German competition on the market from a performance point of view.
Although the Q50 is not the most exciting sedan to see in this segment, the Red Sport Edition offers some much-needed accessories that keep it sleek and race-ready. The interior includes a raised, taller front bumper and wider, lower air intakes compared to the non-Sport model.
Infiniti Q50, Q60 Pricing And Specs
The rear of the car places more emphasis on the dual air intakes and rear diffuser, with a two-tone paint finish and a dark metallic finish around the base of the rear bumper to match the body colour.
In addition, the Red Sport model comes with special 19-inch wheels, low-profile tires and red brakes, further enhancing its aggressive stance and improving performance and traction at high and high speeds.
Infiniti was one of the first brands to introduce wired steering many years ago. Unfortunately, it’s not perfect, but positive changes have been made over the years and it’s closer than ever. The system now offers even more options
